The president of the University of ICT announces an investment of 5 billion in the Cameroonian economy in the next 10 years.
He spoke at the 14th enrollment ceremony for new men of the Institution which took place this Monday, October 21, 2024 in the conference room of the same institute.
Highlighting the different sectors where the money will be used, Professor Victor Mbarika said it will be injected into the fields of agriculture, real estate and ICT. “We are training job creators in Cameroon and not job seekers. That is why we support students’ innovations and support their projects. With this in mind, we will invest the sum of 5 billion FCFA in the fields of agriculture, real estate and ICT. In the agricultural sector, for example, we will invest in robotics that will allow robots to be involved in agriculture, particularly in cleaning farms. That is what we want to do for students,” he noted.
Professor Victor Mbarika also stressed that the money will create over 2,000 jobs, with a focus on the youth in the North West and South West who are going through the crisis. He said: “We will create about 500 jobs for the people of the North West and South West who are experiencing the war in that part of the country.”
The university’s rector, Prof. Emmanuel Pondi, on his part, encouraged students to be disciplined in the pursuit of academic excellence. He said: “In the ICT University, we train students to be disciplined and respectful. As we give them rights, we ensure that they abide by the rules and regulations of the school because there is no success without discipline.”
