Prof. Victor Mbarika

ICT University in Cameroon: George Mbarika’s legacy celebrated by the nation in Yaoundé

It was a huge crowd that bid farewell and celebrated the life of a great professor devoted to the service of humanity, Professor George Mbarika. It was during a big event on October 20, 2024 at the Palais des Congrès in Yaoundé.

George Mbarika, a man who spent his entire life ensuring that his children and everyone around him could acquire the ropes of success, was honoured in the best possible way by those he touched directly and indirectly. In his speech, one of his illustrious sons, who turned out to be his father’s real son, Professor Victor Mbarika, said his father left a legacy that should not fade even in the next 100 centuries. He painted a picture of the life his father George Mbarika lived and the message was passed on to his generation. He said “God kept him for so long because one of the projects he wanted to see stable is the university ICT project and I think we can all agree that he accomplished that mission before he went to the Lord.”

A life of discipline and focus.

Professor George Mbarika will be remembered for his meticulousness in achieving his goals, no matter the storms that come his way. Professor Victor Mbarika described him at the event as a true architect of all the successes he has achieved today. He said, “He has shown discipline in helping the financial management of the academic institution of ICT. He has laid a foundation for continuity and more and more achievements.”

Professor Victor Mbarika added that the foundations he laid still have much fruit to bear in the near future. He said: “We are yet to see even 10% of the fruits that Dad’s legacy will bear and we are yet to savour the benefits of his investments over the years.”

Speaking about his personal relationship with his children, Professor Victor Mbarika attests that his father was there at all times to keep his children strong in the face of the storms that life throws at them. He showed them the way to the cross of Jesus Christ who was crucified for their sins. He said, “He lived a good life and trained each of his children, whether biological or extended, on what it means to fear God and succeed.”

With all these achievements of his father, Professor Victor Mbarika is committed to maintaining his father’s legacy for as long as possible. He said, “We will do our best to maintain his legacy by not letting anything he built die.” We plan to invest 5 billion FCFA in Cameroon’s economy whether in the rural sector, local development, education and many other areas.
